LASSIE ASHBURN

Lassie Ashburn, 66, of 223 Bracy St., died Friday morning, May 31, 1996, in the Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

He was a native of Walters, Va. and retired from the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, Coast Guard and the Portsmouth Naval Yard. Mr. Ashburn was an honor graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College; a member of O'Berry A.M.E. Zion Church, Franklin; a former member of the New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Franklin; a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association; Who's Who in America's Colleges and Universities; a member of AARP; a Franklin electoral officer; assistant Sunday school teacher; vice president of the Trustee Board; and a member of O'Berry Gospel Choir.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Frances Ridley Ashburn; and his mother, Lillie Mae Ford Ashburn of Franklin; two sons, Minister Milton Elliotte of Snow Hill, N.C., Lloyd Allen of Germany; stepson, Rudolph Hilliard of Franklin; two daughters, Professor Jacqueline Blackwell, Karen Rucker, doctor of juris prudice, both of Hampton; three sisters, Mary Galloway of Wilmington, N.C., Mollie Lawrence and Joan Buck, both of Franklin; four brothers, Andrew, Myrick, Ed, Thomas, all of Franklin; a godson and daughter, Herbert and Melanie Urquhart, both of Franklin; eight grandchildren; uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation service will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in O'Berry A.M.E.Z. Church, 31490 O'Berry Church Road, Franklin. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 415 Stonewall St., Franklin. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, Franklin. Remains will be placed in New Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Wm. M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, Inc., Franklin, is in charge.
