HAMPTON MAN CLAIMS $7 MILLION LOTTO POT HE USED NUMBERS HE HAD FOUND WEEKS AGO IN A FORTUNE COOKIE.

A Hampton man claimed a $7 million Lotto jackpot Monday, the Virginia Lottery said.

Althonso M. King was buying his usual Pick 3 ticket Monday when he asked the 7-Eleven clerk to check his Lotto tickets from Saturday's drawing.

``The clerk said, `I think you're a winner,' but I told him I didn't think I could be a winner,'' said King, who claimed his prize at the Virginia Lottery's Hampton Roads office.

King said he found the winning numbers, 2-5-23-27-36-41, in a fortune cookie and had been playing them for several weeks.

King received a first payment of $239,556 after taxes. He will get 19 additional payments of $239,369 after taxes.

It was the second winning Lotto jackpot ticket in six months for the 7-Eleven at 110 S. Armistead Avenue. A ticket worth $24.8 million was sold there Nov. 22. The store gets a $5,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
