In response to your May 9 comments concerning the return to power of former Portsmouth Mayor James W. Holley III, the citizens remember much more than the 1986-87 allegations of misconduct.
Senior citizens recall how his successful, fearless efforts to integrate public facilities such as the libraries and golf course enhanced the lives of all. The voters remember the prosperity in Portsmouth that graced his previous mayoral tenure.
Although I have never lived in Portsmouth, I have known Dr. Holley for more than four decades. I know him well enough to say that there is no need for concern about his having to work with a strong City Council whose views concerning city-development plans are not in total agreement with his. Holley is a very-intelligent person who can and will resolve such differences in order to promote the vitality of Portsmouth.
