Vivian Hughes Pretlow, widow of Kenneth H. Pretlow, died Friday, May 31, 1996.
She was a native of Maryland's Eastern Shore, and was a member of Brown's A.M.E. Church and the stewardess board. She was a former public school teacher on the Eastern Shore and in the counties of Charles City and Isle of Wight. She was a graduate of Maryland State University, Delaware State University and did further studies at Morgan State University, Hampton University and Temple University.
She retired from the Isle of Wight school system in 1976. She was a member of the Isle of Wight Cancer Society, Tynes Corner Community Club, Smithfield Grid Iron Club, Isle of Wight County Library Association and the Virginia Teachers Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Pretlow of the home; a sister, Sylvia Hughes Carter of Cape May, N.J.; four nephews, James R. Pittman, Adrian Caphart, Charles Carter and Kenneth Goss; two nieces, Ola Goss and Sylvia Pretlow Myers; and two sisters-in-law, Odessa Pretlow and Jocelyn Pretlow Goss.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Brown's A.M.E. Church. Burial will be in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Isle of Wight Cancer Society. Arrangements by Pretlow and Chapman Funeral Home.
