Harold Deane, charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the University of Virginia basketball team.
Deane's trial on the charges, lodged after a confrontation outside a bar on April 13, was scheduled to begin Monday but was put off indefinitely.
Deane, a 6-2 guard, has started 86 of the 92 games he's played during his three years at Virginia. Last season he averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.
The university announced that Deane will not participate in any official team activities, including an August trip to Europe. Coach Jeff Jones said that Deane will remain on scholarship.
Jones said it has not been determined when Deane will rejoin the team.
