Frank Vincent Forcella, 79, passed away Tuesday June 4, 1996, at Virginia Beach General Hospital.
He was born in Springfield, Mass., on July 8, 1916, and was the first child of Massimo and Filomena Forcella. His siblings were Mary (Chapel), Anne (Moore), Ina (Chalker), Fanny (Monaco), Jean, and Vincent. Anne and Ina preceded him in death. Mr. Forcella joined the U.S. Army-Air Corps while still a teenager, eventually attaining the rank of master sergeant during his 27 years of service in the Air Corps and Air Force. He served in the European theater during World War II, where he was wounded and spent two years as a prisoner of war. He also served in the Korean War. Master Sgt. Forcella spent other tours of duty in England, Germany, Japan, and several locations state-side. While in Germany he met and married his wife of 50 years, Agnes. After his medical discharge from the military he was able to overcome lymphatic cancer and worked for several years at Sears Roebuck Co. in West Springfield, Mass. Subsequently, Mr. Forcella and his wife settled into permanent retirement in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Forcella is survived by his wife, Agnes; as well as by his children, Capt. Herbert Stephan of Virginia Beach, Werner Stephan of Treuchtlingen, Germany, Maryann Brick of Granby, Mass., and Frank Forcella of Morris, Minn.; and his 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Although he was a quiet and unassuming man, no child could ask for a better dad, no grandchild for a better gramps, and no pooch for a better master. He will be missed greatly.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is handling arrangements.
