Sophia V. Owens, 87, of the 1200 block of Americus Ave., died June 3, 1996.
Mrs. Owens was born in Bell Cross, N.C., and was a resident of Princess Anne County for most of her life. She was the widow of the late John J. Owens. She was a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church, where she served as the church mother, and a member of the deaconess board.
She is survived by three daughters, Emily Outlaw, Marguerite Wright and Ann Owens, all of Virginia Beach; nine sons, John Owens Jr., David Owens, Charles Owens, Dennis Owens, Artemus Owens, Alfonzo Owens, Willis Owens and Frank Owens, all of Virginia Beach, and Kenneth M. Owens of Chesapeake; five daughters-in-law; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Rehoboth Baptist Church by the pastor Rev. Harry C. Poole. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
