``Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,'' the Pumpkins' double-disc set, has sold more than 6 million copies since its release last fall. It's currently No. 43 on Billboard's list of Top 200 albums; the single ``1979'' is No. 34.
Garbage's self-titled debut, released last August, recently went gold, with 500,000 copies sold. The singles ``Only Happy When It Rains'' and ``Stupid Girl'' have been embraced by alt-rock radio. by CNB
