About 230 Portsmouth people and their guests will board the Carrie B for a morning boat ride to participate in the Parade of Sail. They are scheduled to pull into the Elizabeth River harbor at noon today.
The tour boat was chartered by the Portsmouth Division of the Chamber of Commerce. Members paid $25 per passenger to join the party.
Among the passengers will be some guests of the city's Economic Development Department, paid for by the Portsmouth Partnership, according to Mary Joe Gwaltney, executive director of the Partnership.
``The Partnership feels this is an event that can be used as an economic development tool,'' she said. ``The city staff can invite potential developers or some who recently moved here.''
It's a way for them to get to know other Portsmouth business people, she said, and to ask questions and get information about the city from those already in business in Portsmouth. by CNB
