LET'S NOT PRETEND

It bugs me to have to pretend.

We have just recently celebrated Memorial Day on May 27. May 30, the real Memorial Day, came on Thursday!

Somebody decided we should have all our holidays on Mondays, giving us nice, long weekends. Why? Once in awhile it happens that way naturally, and that is just great. On the other hand, it is marvelous to have a day off in the middle of the week. Work a couple or three days, have a day off, then work a day or two and - bingo! - a weekend.

That to me is real pleasure. This way everything is the same and the real holidays are being passed over and forgotten. Sad.

Same thing with daylight-saving time! Why in heaven's name can't we go with nature and not have to turn our clocks up? When spring and summer come, the sun rises earlier, the birds start singing and the world comes alive. All we have to do is decide to go to work an hour earlier. Why change the clock and pretend?

God gives us the sunlight and the balmy atmosphere to make it easier to rise and shine. Why mess it up?
