ADMINISTRATOR AND SECRETARY FROM SAME OFFICE ARE HONORED THE ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL OFFICE PROFESSIONALS PICKED ANNE MEEK, KATY STUEDEMANN.

For the first time, an administrator and secretary from the same office in the city's school administration building have been chosen administrator and office professional of the year. Anne Meek, executive assistant to the superintendent, and Katy Stuedemann, Meek's secretary, were chosen for the honors that are sponsored by the Virginia Beach Association of Educational Office Professionals.

Meek, who has been with the city's public schools since 1992, supervises the division's public information, community and media relations and grants services. Among her accomplishments are launching employee and family newsletters and redesigning the system's school guide. Meek also initiated the development of school information videos. Under the district's recently announced reorganization, she will be reassigned to other duties.

Stuedemann became Meek's secretary in 1993 but has been with the division since 1979. She helped establish the public information office and organizational support services department. Stuedemann was instrumental in developing a plan that allows office workers in the school system to earn degrees from Tidewater Community College. Her professionalism, human relations skills and patience in training others were cited as reasons for her nomination.

The awards were announced at the Office Professionals' annual ``Bosses' Night.'' Judges, who are not school division employees, make the selection based on a rigorous application process.

Both Meek and Stuedemann said they were honored to be chosen.

``I wasn't surprised when Katy was named secretary of the year, but I was astonished to hear my own name called,'' Meek said. ``I feel completely honored to receive this title and promise to live up to the confidence expressed in me.''

Stuedemann said the recognition was particularly special to her because so many central office employees are deserving. ``I am truly honored to have been chosen to represent the organization,'' she said.

``I'm extremely proud that my boss Anne Meek was named the 1996-97 administrator of the year. She truly is deserving of this recognition,'' Stuedemann said. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by MORT FRYMAN
