SUFFOLK CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:

An ordinance levying taxes on boats, recreational vehicles, airplanes and qualified disabled American veterans as classified in Section 58.1-3506 of the Code of Virginia, 1950 as amended. No vote first reading.

An ordinance amending Chapter 10, titled ``Finance and Taxation'' repealing the tax on certain admissions and providing for the collection of admission taxes generally. No vote first reading.

An ordinance amending Section 16-53 of Chapter 16, titled ``Motor Vehicles and Traffic'' of the Suffolk City Code. No vote first reading.

An ordinance amending Article I Sections 15-22, 15-23, and Article II, Sections 15-25, 15-29, 15-32, 15-36, 15-37, 15-38, 15-41, 15-47, 15-48, 15-49, 15-50, and 15-73 of Chapter 15 titled ``Licenses'' of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk. No vote first reading.

Allocation of Funding for Capital Improvement Plan - Utility Projects. Approved 7-0.

An ordinance amending the Code of the City of Suffolk to adopt by reference the provisions and requirements of certain motor vehicle and traffic laws of the Commonwealth. Approved 7-0.

An ordinance amending the Code of the City of Suffolk to incorporate changes to the Code of Virginia effective July 1, 1996. Approved 7-0.

An ordinance approving the City Budget for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 1996 and ending June 30, 1997. Delayed.

An ordinance appropriating funds for expenditures contemplated during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1996 and ending June 30, 1997, in the amount of $110,187,860 and regulating the payment of money out of the City Treasury. Delayed.

An ordinance levying tangible personal property and machinery and tools taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1996 and ending June 30, 1997. Delayed.

An ordinance to appropriate $150,000 from the Unappropriated Fund balance of the General Fund for juvenile detention and group home care in the fiscal year 1995-96 General Fund Annual Operating Budget - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance to appropriate $175,000 from the Undesignated Fund balance of the General Fund for professional services for the Comprehensive Plan Revision - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance to amend the City Code Chapter 9, Erosion and Sedimentation Control, Borrow Pits, of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance to appropriate $18,718 from the Unappropriated Fund Balance of the General Fund for a contract reimbursement - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance amending Article XI. Section 22-62, Construction, etc., off-site improvements and amending Article VII. Section 29-34, Construction, etc. off-site improvements of the City Code. Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance amending Chapter 11 of the Code of the City of Suffolk titled ``Fire Protection,'' to include a new Article III, ``Regulation of Open Burning.'' Approved, 7-0.

An ordinance to appropriate $280,000 from the Unappropriated Fund balance of the Risk Management Fund for replacement of voting machines damaged by fire - First Reading. No vote first reading.

A resolution authorizing the city to elect to fund the Virginia Retirement System cost of living increase for employees to reach a level to fully fund the cost of living increase over a five-year period. Approved, 7-0.

Consideration of a request for an extension of the Conditional Use Permit for Holly's Inc. Approved, 7-0.

Consideration of an amendment to the Capital Improvements Plan regarding the funding for the replacement of the Cypress Swimming Pool. Amended to transfer funds from the CIP to John F. Kennedy High School. Approved, 7-0.

Approval of the city assessor's contract. Approved, 7-0.

Establish a City Council Work Session for Wednesday, June 19 at 4 p.m. unless canceled. Approved, 7-0. by CNB
