Dr. John Andrew Hylton, 59, an artist and clinical psychologist of Chandler, Ariz., died May 14, 1996, in the Veteran's Hospital. He was the son of the late George Hylton Jr. and Helen Hylton Harper of Norfolk. He was an Army Security Agency veteran.
Dr. Hylton was a 1955 graduate of Maury High School. He later moved to Tempe, Ariz. He attended Arizona State University from which he graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's and a Doctor's degree with high honors. For a number of years, he taught in universities in California, New Mexico and Arizona. For several years he gave freely of his time in counseling in the Beacon House Rehabilitation Clinic in San Pedro, Calif.
His renowned sculpture was publicly exhibited in Art Shows in California and Arizona where he was highly regarded for his excellent craftsmanship and expressionism as a figurative sculptor.
Dr. Hylton is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, John B. and Robert; and daughters, Rebecca Hernandez and Sarah Hylton; his mother, Helen Harper; brother, Bob Hylton; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in Chandler, May 17.
