OTHER REASONS TO RAISE THE FUEL TAX NOW

Edwin Krampitz Jr.'s letter (May 13), wherein he lists several cogent reasons why we should increase the federal gasoline tax, is right on the money. But he left out a couple of other valid reasons to increase the tax now.

This country really needs the funds to repair the inventory of dangerously substandard roads and bridges, construct mass-transit systems, reduce the national debt and decrease our huge balance-of-payment deficits.

Additionally, the ubiquitous gasoline-powered vehicle is destroying our planet by being a major factor in raising Earth's temperature, polluting the atmosphere, and razing Earth's treasures such as the landmarks of Egypt, Greece, Rome, Venice. . . .
