BRIDGE-TUNNEL BOYCOTT? WHY?

The unions are at it again, crying about jobs and how outsiders are taking away their work.

And now they're planning revenge (``Unions pushing for boycott of Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel,'' Business News, May 15).

The expected new Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was out for bid, and ``outsiders'' won, to the tune of $3.8 million less than what our local firms bid. A no brainer for the tunnel commission.

Since we couldn't be competitive, the unions want to boycott bridge traffic, which will hurt the entire area.

A mature response to the problem? It might be smarter to find out why our bid lost.

Are labor costs too high?

Did we miscalculate materials?

We need to learn why we lost, not wreak vengeance on the community.
