Harry Chris Coureas, 85, of the 7600 block of Leafwood Drive, died June 8, 1996, at a Norfolk hospital.
A native of Morphou, Cyprus, he was the husband of Mary Briola Coureas. He is also survived by two sons, a daughter and their families: Donald J. and Loretta M. Coureas of Virginia Beach, Cynthia Elaine Coureas of Norfolk, J. Chris and Patricia Coureas of New York City; and grandsons, John A. and Justin M. Coureas of Virginia Beach and Christopher T. Coureas of New York.
Mr. Coureas served and was decorated in both the North African and European campaigns in World War II. For more than 65 years he operated barber businesses in Norfolk and Virginia Beach and operated the Military Circle Barber Shop since Military Circle first opened. A member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of Norfolk, he had been a member of the Cyprus Benevolent Society and also served as a Greek language translator for federal and state courts. A frequent editorial contributor to the newspaper, for many years he conducted ``The Barber Poll,'' which was reported in the Norfolk newspapers during political campaigns.
A Trisagion service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, at 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the Greek church in Norfolk on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 7220 Granby St., Norfolk, Va. 23505. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
