Claudia Beatrice Batts, 51, of the 700 block of Madison St., died June 6, 1996.
Born in Portsmouth, she was a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville in Portsmouth. She was a faithful member of the church until her health began to fail her.
Survivors include her stepfather, Clarence Marsh of Portsmouth; four sisters, Doris T. Carey of Portsmouth, Diana Johnson of Greenville, N.C., Shirley Patillo of Portsmouth and Linda Wilson of Chesapeake; a brother, Clarence Smith of Elizabeth City; an uncle, Roosevelt Pittman of Portsmouth; three aunts, Genevia Taylor of Portsmouth, Leora Perry and Annie Pittman, both of Hartford, Conn.; a special friend, Nathaniel Watson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in New First Baptist Church Taylorsville by the Rev. Thomas Steele. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Family and friends will assemble at 4646 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, at 11:15 a.m. for the procession to the church.
