Recent fishing developments have been marked by some outstanding cobia action in the lower Chesapeake Bay and some terrific billfish action off the North Carolina Outer Banks.
Additionally, recent catches have included the season's first Virginia white marlin and dolphin and a new leader in the flounder division of the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament.
The season's first whites were released southeast of the Cigar seamount Friday by Claude Diggs Sr. and Don R. Christian Jr., both of Virginia Beach, fishing on the boat Off Call.
The big flounder weighed 8 3/4 pounds and was boated at Chincoteague by James Burch of Phoenix, Md., fishing out of Capt. Bob's Fishing Camp.
The weekend's biggest reported cobia weighed 69-8 and was taken on Latimer Shoals, near Kiptopeke, by Paul Brown of Virginia Beach on the boat Katy Brown.
