NORMAN L. SPRY

Lt. Cmdr. Norman L. Spry, of the 100 block of Windemere Road, died May 31, 1996, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C.

Born in Coinjock, N.C., on Oct. 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry Sheldon and Bertha Moore Spry. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 32 years of service, receiving a Purple Heart, among other decorations. He later received a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and served as assistant director of the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial for five years until his retirement. He was a member of Oceanview Masonic Lodge of Oceanview, Va.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Christine W. Spry of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Anne Arnesen and husband, Knut Arnesen, of Gjerdrum, Norway; three grandchildren, Bernt, Kelly and Kevin Arnesen of Gjerdrum; and seven brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Arlington National Cemetery. Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel handling arrangements.
