In response to editorial page editor Keith Monroe's column (June 7) on the alleged inferiority complex of Virginia Beach residents toward Norfolk: If anything, it's the other way around. Sometimes, the minute I mention that I am a resident of Norfolk to someone I've just met from Virginia Beach, their noses immediately turn upward.
Beach residents act superior because a good percentage of them think of Norfolk as an old, crime-ridden city full of illiterates. It is true that Virginia Beach has become a national travel destination and has good schools and other fine attributes. But to say that Virginia Beach citizens have an inferiority complex against Norfolk is downright wrong.
By the way, where does Mr. Monroe live?
