Johanna Hedger Porter, 74, died June 10, 1996, in a local nursing home.

A native of Miles City, Mont., she was the widow of Norman Leonard Porter Jr. She was Protestant.

Survivors include her daughter, Jo Anne Porter Nelson of Hertford, N.C.; a son, Edward Norman Porter of Carrollton, Texas; four sisters, Barbara Glisan and Eva Creef, both of Portsmouth, and Jamesina Pierce and Jean Everette, both of Chesapeake; a brother, Don Hedger of Miami; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Ronald R. Rice. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
