Two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition after standing water on Laskin Road sent a car crashing head-on into a pickup truck shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said 19-year-old Amy Banks lost control of her Honda sedan after driving over a large puddle in the 1300 block of Laskin Road near Hilltop. The eastbound Honda veered across the median and hit a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Charles M. Howard.
Police said Howard, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was impaled by the pickup's steering column. Howard, of the 3600 block of Stepping Stone Lane, was taken to the Trauma Center at Virginia Beach General Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Banks, of the 500 block of Fountain Lake Drive, was wearing a seat belt. Police said she was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
A passenger in the Honda, Sarah E. Bradley, 18, of the 2800 block of Croix Ct., was also hurt. Police said she was in good condition at the hospital and would likely be released late Tuesday. Bradley was wearing a seat belt.
