COMMERCIAL FISHING, CHARTER BOAT LICENSES WILL BE AVAILABLE JULY 1

North Carolina commercial fishing licenses for the 1997 season will be available July 1 from the state's Division of Marine Fisheries and from license agents across the state.

Licenses for 1996 will be valid until midnight July 21. After that, 1997 licenses will be required for all commercial fishing activities.

When purchasing a license, fishermen must present copies of their current North Carolina boat registration or U.S. Customs documentation; photo identification; a notarized bill of sale with Hull I.D. number or N.C. Boat Registration number; and, if the fisherman is from another state, a current out-of-state boat registration.

The state Division of Marine Fisheries sells licenses for seafood dealers, ocean piers, charter boats, endorsements-to-sell seafood, spotter planes, to land and sell seafood and for flounder landings.

Other licenses available, which are subject to a two-year fishing license moratorium, include vessel licenses, crab licenses, endorsements to sell for non-vessels, shellfish licenses and vessel crab licenses.

Charter boat licenses, dealers' licenses and licenses to land flounder only will be issued by the Division of Marine Fisheries in Morehead City. Other licenses are available at area outlets. For more information on licensing requirements, costs or locations, call the state's license unit: (919) 726-7021 or (800) 682-2632.
