YOUNG ALL-DISTRICT TEAM HAS FEW SENIORS

THE FUTURE LOOKS bright for Eastern District baseball if the all-district team is any indication.

Only four seniors made the 11-player first team along with four juniors and three sophomores. The second team is even more reflective of the future with seven juniors and only three seniors.

A reshuffling at the top also may loom since three of the four seniors are from district champion Maury.

The Commodores, who swept through the district 8-0, put pitcher Rick Hart, shortstop Aaron Ambrose, third baseman Taylor Blair and outfielder Mike Cave on the first team. All but Cave are seniors.

Hart was 5-0 with a 1.36 ERA, including a pair of shutouts of runnerup Lake Taylor.

Ambrose batted .415 with two home runs and 20 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

Blair batted .466 with four home runs, eight doubles and 31 RBIs. Cave batted .300.

Lake Taylor, Granby and Booker T. Washington placed two players each on the first team.

Representing the Titans are left-handed pitcher Robbie Hale and third baseman Brian Fair, both juniors.

Hale was 9-3, matching the school-record for victories in a season. His 3-1 win over Granby in the district tournament final put the Titans in the Eastern Region tournament.

Fair batted .381 and committed only one error.

Granby is represented by senior pitcher/infielder Ryan McFadden and pitcher/shortstop Heath Cataulin.

McFadden, who signed with Radford, batted .393 with 12 RBIs and was 4-2 with a 2.80 ERA. Cataulin, a sophomore, batted .320. His home run off Hale accounted for the Comets' only run in the tournament final.

Booker T. Washington's two players are both sophomores, catcher Danny Bell and infielder Dominic Perry. Bell batted .417 and Perry batted .317.

Norview's representative is junior outfielder and catcher Charles Duke. He batted .356. ILLUSTRATION: HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
