CLARENCE E. DRUMHELLER SR.

Chaplain Clarence E. Drumheller Sr., major, U.S. Air Force (retired), 74, of Hickory, died June 12, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.

Mr. Drumheller, a retired Air Force chaplain, was also a United Methodist minister and a retired teacher from Chesapeake Public Schools. He was a native of Clifton Forge, Va., and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Men. He was also a member of Hickory Ruritan Club, and American Legion. He was a recipient of the outstanding achievement award from the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge in 1969. He was a published author in The Upper Room, Guideposts, and Purpose.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva White Drumheller; four daughters, Julie Hartshorn of Richmond, Jean Johnson of Montgomery, Ala., Frances Kathleen Satterthwaite of Chesapeake, Patricia Anne Gavan of N. Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons, Clarence Edward Drumheller Jr. of Belleville, N.J., Henry Patrick Gavan III of Norfolk; two sisters, Connie Cornelius Hornberger of Richmond, Karen Brogan of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Wade Berry of Williamsburg; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Effie M. Drumheller.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. William Mahon. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Randolph- Macon College or to United Methodist Ministerial Fund, or to Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is in charge.
