LINEMAN ELECTROCUTED

A 31-year-old lineman was electrocuted while replacing power lines Monday near the tiny bayside village of Leemont. Officials with A & N Electric Cooperative say the death of Reginald Stewart Keeting, of Melfa, is under investigation.

``We've got a lot of `whys?' that we'd like to find the answers to,'' said Don Bowling, vice president for operations for the power company.

Bowling said that Keeting was in the bucket of a power truck, changing wires, when he ``made contact with the energized wires.'' Keeting, a married man with two children, slumped into the bucket.

Fellow workers lowered the bucket and administered CPR. When the rescue squad arrived, they tried to revive Keeting as well, Bowling said. But he never recovered.

Bowling said that A & N Electric had recently won a certificate from the National Safety Council for having worked 133,466 man-hours without any time lost due to an accident. Keeting had attended training sessions last year, during which he won awards for good work, Bowling said.

``I have a lot of respect for him,'' Bowling said. ``He was a very competent lineman.''
