Bernice Maggie ``Mother Anderson'' Anderson, 101, of the 500 block of Louisa Street, died June 10, 1996, in a local hospital.
A native of Suffolk, she was the widow of Zechariah Anderson. She was retired from Harlem Hospital and Diplomat Hotel for 40 years. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Pentecostal Holiness Church, Norfolk. She was National Church Mother of Mt. Gilead Pentecostal Holiness Churches, Inc., head of the Women Board, a member of WTJZ Prayer Partners, ``I Will be a Witness'' team. She was one of the first Prayers Partners to work with with Bro. Nat Williams, founder of Union Gospel Band Singers of New York City. She was a former organist for a variety of choirs in New York City, one of the founders of Temple of Prince of Peace Pentecostal Church of American Inc. (Bishop Briggs). She was a member of the Southside Senior Citizen Club and a participant in Senior Olympic. She resided in New York City for over 60 years before returning to Norfolk 12 years ago. She resided with her oldest grandson, the Rev. James Anderson, until her death.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances Olivia Bell of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her adopted daughter, Alberta Brown.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday in Mt. Gilead Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Bishop Nancy Jenkins. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Metropolitan Funeral Service is handling arrangements. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Saturday at 522 Louisa Street, Norfolk, for funeral procession to the church. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
