Vashti J. Clark

NORFOLK - Vashti Johnson Clark, 90, of the 2600 block of Mapleton Ave., died June 9, 1996, in her home.

Born in Princess Anne Co., Pleasant Ridge, she retired as a nurse from Clark's Nursing Agency. She was the widow of Carl W. Clark Sr. She was a member of New Bethlehem Church of Christ Disciple, Norfolk, and was a missionary, and member of the Mother's Board and choir. She was the founder and president of Clark's Nurses Agency. She was recently honored by Clark's Nursing Club.

Survivors include three sons, Carl W. Clark Jr. of Norfolk, Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. of Aliquippa, Pa., and Wallace A. Clark of Stone Mount, Ga.; a brother, Ustate Johnson of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren, Melvin E. Clark Jr. and Sherris L.H. Clark, both of Alexandria, Va., David L. Clark and Vashti V. Clark, both of Monaca, Pa., Kenneth M. Clark of Philadelphia, Amanda Clark, Connie Clark and Tabia Clark of Norfolk, Wallace Clark Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., Erica Clark of Columbia, Md., and Sheryl C. Rodger of Stone Mount, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, Melvin E. Clark III and Michael L. Clark, both of Pittsburgh, Pa., Johnathan Clark of Alexandria, Kenneth M. Clark Jr. and Melessie Joy Clark, both of Aliquippa, and Carl E. Rodgers and Shenell L. Rodgers, both of Stone Mount; and two nieces, Lucille Lawrence and Rosa Belle Hubbard. She was predeceased by her parents, Cora Johnson and Jesse Johnson.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at New Hope Church of God in Christ, 3232 Brest Ave., Norfolk, by Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Saturday at 2405 Virginia Beach Blvd. for the funeral procession to the church. The remains will be placed in the church for viewing from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
