A 34-year-old man was critically injured and died after he apparently stepped in front of a car late Wednesday. Police believe he had been drinking.
Mark W. Jancosko, of the 700 block of Ainsley Place, died late Thursday morning at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Jancosko, who was stationed aboard the assault ship Nassau, left the Heartbreak Cafe in the 800 block of Baker Road about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was walking southbound along the road when he apparently stumbled into the path of a car.
Police said Jancosko suffered massive injuries. He was taken to the Trauma Center at Norfolk General.
The driver of the car, who faces no charges, was unhurt. But a 16-year-old girl was hurt when she was showered with broken glass. She was in stable condition at an area hospital.
