Zelda Freeman, left, and Nancy Armstrong of Chesapeake just returned

from a trip to California, 9,650 miles round trip. "Divorced or

widowed women would miss out on an awful lot if they waited until

they had a man with them," says Armstrong.

Kelly Jackson, associate dean of admissions at Virginia Wesleyan

College, plans ahead when she travels. She studies maps to avoid
