Havner Harold Thomasson, 87, of the 700 block of Potomac Ave., died June 8, 1996, in his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Thomasson was born in Salisbury, N.C., and lived in Gastonia, Statesville, and Winston Salem where his family owned Winston Laundry and Dry Cleaners.
He was formerly a mortician with Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville and Snellings Funeral Home in Portsmouth. He was retired from the Pure Oil Company.
He was a son of Sidney Scott and Juanita Green Harwell Thomasson, both deceased, and the brother of Robert Coleman Thomason, also deceased. He was related to both the Carter and Harrison families, the Rev. Billy Graham, the late Harrison Salisbury and President Harry S. Truman.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hathaway Walton Thomasson; a daughter, Joyce Thomasson Eskey; a grandson, Richard Lee Eskey Jr.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Paige Walton; and relatives in Georgia, New York, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
Private funeral services were conducted by Father James Gordon with Foster Funeral Home handling arrangements. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church or the Boy Scout troop of the church.
