Florence L. Sanderson, 70, of the 1200 block of Davis Ave., died June 14, 1996, at home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Portsmouth, Mrs. Sanderson was the daughter of the late John and Vera Lewis and the widow of Troy E. Sanderson. She was retired from the Naval Aviation Safety Center and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Great Bridge Chapter.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra S. Hair and Don W. Hair of Chesapeake and Louise S. Jernigan and Richard Jernigan of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Laurie Hair of Virginia Beach, Greg Hair and his wife, Ann, of Chesapeake, Jason Jernigan and Troy Jernigan of Alexandria; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Hair of Chesapeake; four sisters, Janie Bradshaw of Virginia Beach, Burnice Morrisette, Mary Ann Stacious and Nancy Radcliff of Portsmouth; and a brother, Harry Lewis of Florida.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith and Williams Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Edmarc Hospice for Children or Hope Haven Children's Home.
