Dr. William Lee Davis, 90, died Wednesday, June 5, 1996. He was a native of Norfolk.
He attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1940.
After completing his internship at Charleston General Hospital in Charleston, W.Va., Dr. Davis was in general practice in Virginia Beach for two years. He then became a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, N.J.
Upon completion of his residency in 1947, Dr. Davis entered into the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in Newport News. He retired from private practice in 1972. From 1974 to 1980 he was associated as a gynecologist with the OB/GYN Clinic, 1st Medical Group, Langley Air Force Base.
Dr. Davis was the first chief of staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He also served as consultant on obstetrics at McDonald Army Community Hospital at Ft. Eustis. He was a past president of the Virginia State Obstetric and Gynecology Society and a diplomat of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as a member of various other medical societies.
He was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church and a past member of the James River Country Club and the Hampton Yacht Club.
Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Helen Jones Davis; a daughter, Susan Davis Wilmoth of Newport News; a sister, Maude Davis Philhower of Williamsburg; a brother, Russell Burnley Davis of Virginia Beach; and two grandsons.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 8, 1996, in the Chapel at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church.
