THE FEELING OF BEING WATCHED

Hot humid weather and sunny skies held throughout the weekend for the 41st annual Boardwalk Art Show sponsored by the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts. This year's show, part of the 10-day multicultural, multi-discipline Boardwalk International Arts Festival, featured more than 450 photographers, sculptors, painters, jewelers and ceramists displaying their work along 15 blocks of the Oceanfront. The 1996 theme was the influence of rock 'n' roll on contemporary art and world cultures. Best in show honors and a $5,000 purchase prize went to Florida artist Gustavo Castillo. His winning piece - a 40-by-60-inch watercolor on paper titled ``Blue Wall'' - will become a part of the art center's permanent collection.
