N. ACADEMY, N. CHRISTIAN PLAYERS DOMINATE TEAM

TCIS CHAMPION Norfolk Academy and Norfolk Christian dominated the 1996 all-conference soccer team with seven of the 11 members coming from the two schools.

Bulldog seniors Angela Hucles and Carrie Evans, both also All-Tide-water, were joined by Lizzy Rice and Katie Rowen on the first team.

Representing Norfolk Christian: Sonni Stommel, Kristen Brown and Martha Duffey.

Norfolk Collegiate put Elizabeth Daman and Brooke Cooper on the first team.

Hucles, a first-team selection for the past five seasons, is coming off her best season in tallying 52 goals, 13 hat tricks and 17 assists. She leaves the Bulldogs ranked first in the school record books in career goals (204), assists (106) and points (514). She has signed to play with the University of Virginia.

Evans had 14 goals and 16 assists in the spring despite a stress fracture that hampered her throughout the season. The midfielder leaves Academy as fifth all-time in goals (69), third in assists (64) and fourth in points (202). She will play at the College of William & Mary.

Rice, a sophomore stopper, led the Bulldogs with 18 assists to go along with six goals. She and junior sweeper Katie Rowen anchored the defense and helped Academy complete another unbeaten season.

Duffey, a senior, battled an ankle sprain for the second half of the season but contributed seven goals and six assists. She leaves as the school's second-leading scorer with 49 career goals.

Stommel led Norfolk Christian in scoring with 10 goals and five assists. Stommel also did an effective job marking Hucles in an early season game with Academy.

Junior keeper Brown led Norfolk Christian to nine shutouts and averaged 12 saves for a team that coach Rich Rose said was characterized by defense.

Cooper, a freshman forward, is a two-time All-TCIS selection with 15 goals and eights assists.

Junior defender Sara Anton of Cape Henry Collegiate was the team's utility player with four goals and four assists.
