Surely you made a typographical error. According to your June 12 article, Norfolk City Council gave itself a 28 percent raise and the mayor a 25 percent raise. Is a decimal missing? It must be.
Norfolk teachers have just signed contracts for the next school year and were given very small increases ($1,000 for most teachers) over last year's salary.
Council members and the mayor will earn very nearly what new teachers earn, if your article is correct. Teaching is a full-time career for these people and their major or only source of income.
Please say that there's a misprint.
