Robert Ellis ``Pete'' Willoughby, 59, of Route 4, died June 17, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Willoughby was born in Hertford County, N.C., and was a member of Ahoskie First Baptist Church. He was the son of the late William Archie Willoughby and Amanda Crawford Willoughby. He was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and Hargrave Military Academy. He was a light contractor and an Army veteran. Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. He was an avid fisherman, and he spoke often of how close he felt to God on the water.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara C. Willoughby; two sons, Archie Robert Willoughby of Camden, N.C., and Timothy Michael Willoughby of Ahoskie; a brother, Crawford Willoughby of Westmoreland, Va.; two beloved grandchildren, Felicia Willoughby and Timothy Michael Willoughby II, both of Ahoskie; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Robert May and the Rev. James Hutchinson. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens with military honors. Friends may join the family at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Center, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, 600 Gresham Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23507.
