Shirley Jones Meixel, 68, died June 20, 1996, at her home in Grandy, N.C.
She was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach. She was a homemaker and was Catholic by faith. She held memberships in the Sultanas of Padul Caravan (NU)69 Order of Alhambra, the Holy Family Parish of Elizabeth City, Currituck Station and was a longtime member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a son, James L. Meixel.
She is survived by her husband, Walter J. Meixel of Grandy; a daughter, Elizabeth ``Beth'' Meixel of Virginia Beach; three sons, Everett C. Meixel of Virginia Beach, Ralph D. Howerin, Marvin E. Howerin of Tennessee. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy M. Dion, Jenny Adcock, both of North Carolina, Frances Ross of Florida; three grandchildren, Jason E. Miexel and his fiancee, Dana Bowen, Brandon and Whitney Meixel, all of Florida. She will be missed by a host of loving nieces and nephews, especially Marion and Anne Calcagni and Sheila Mackey.
A Christian Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. and a visitation will follow until 9 p.m. today in St. Johns the Apostle Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Johns. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Fr. Dwight Schrader will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the St. John the Apostle building fund. A reception will be held in St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
