Charles C. ``Blackie'' May, of the 8200 Andrew Lane, died June 19, 1996, in DePaul Hospital.
Mr. May served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1969 with the rank of BM.1. After retiring he then worked for Virginia Power for 20 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 39 and the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley and Cameron May; two brothers, George May of Springfield, Ark., Robert May of Macintosh, New Mexico; two sisters, Lottie Able, Louise Scroggins, both of Texas; a stepdaughter, Jane Ferguson of Michigan; a stepson, Roy Sawyer of Norfolk; a foster daughter, Kanina Sarotta; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Sawyer; a sister-in-law, Louise May; a brother-in-law, Rev. Malcolm Scroggins; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Mr. May was predeceased by his wife, Josephine May of Norfolk and his parents, Melvin and Edna May of Grand Prairie, Texas.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Beck officiating. The Moose Rites Ritual will be conducted prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m today at the funeral home with a Fleet Reserve Service to be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
