Cyrus Douglas Howell Sr., 85, died June 19, 1996, on his 60th wedding anniversary. A lifelong resident of Como, he was a retired farmer and a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Jake Liles and Fannie Beale Howell.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Brett Howell; a daughter, Lucinda H. Glover and her husband, Ken, of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, C. Douglas Howell Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Ahoskie, N.C., Philip B. Howell and his wife, Belinda, of Como, Samuel B. Howell and his wife, Lynn, of Como; seven grandchildren, Sarah G. McKee of London, Helen M. Glover of Greenville, James D. Howell, Jason S. Howell, Jeremy P. Howell, Matthew B. Howell, Christopher M. Howell, all of Como; and ten stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Howell is also survived by a brother, Robert L. Howell of Portsmouth; and a sister, Frances H. Daughtrey of Suffolk. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jarvis L. Howell Sr., William Z. Howell and Granville B. Howell; and a sister, Lucy H. Eure.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, with the Rev. Tom Caulkins and Dr. Jesse Croom officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Garrett's Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, N.C.
