DRIVER CHARGED IN 3-VEHICLE CRASH ON 158

The driver of a van that smashed into two other vehicles Saturday, injuring two Dare County paramedics and several others, has been charged with ``left of center.''

The vehicle driven by William H. Tilton, 31, of Montgomery, N.Y., crossed the double yellow line of the U.S. 158 bypass early Saturday morning, Nags Head Police Lt. Rex Meads said Thursday. The infraction is a misdemeanor.

Dare County paramedics Ron Willoughby and Wendy Michael were injured and flown to Hampton Roads hospitals. Both have been released. Others were less seriously hurt.

In a two-car collision about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 158 between Kelly's Restaurant and Rocker Room day care, an unidentified woman was injured.

She was flown to Chesapeake General Hospital, Nags Head Police Lt. Rex Meads said. An unidentified man apparently suffered a broken arm and was taken to Outer Banks Medical Center. One of the vehicles wound up in a culvert alongside the road.
