Hugh Hunter, a graduate of Portsmouth's Wilson High, came to terms on a contract with the New York Jets Thursday.
The deal is for two years. Hunter, agent Ron Del Duca and Jets officials would not disclose the financial terms.
The former Hampton University defensive end was a sixth-round draft pick, the 168th selection overall.
``I feel pretty good about the whole thing in general,'' Hunter said. ``I'm going to a good team, a team in need of defense. Hopefully I can contribute to their needs. I'm looking forward to it.''
Hunter said the negotiation process was tedious at times.
``It was a lot of frustration going through this negotiating a contract, waiting to see what the next offer is going to be,'' Hunter said. ``I'm kind of glad that's behind me.
``What you're doing is looking at what guys got paid last year in the sixth round and what guys picked behind me got on their contracts to see what their offers were before you do your contract.''
