Doris Virginia Odom ``Sweetie Pie'' Thompson, 77, of 1378 Highway 64, died June 20, 1996, in her home with her family by her side.
A native of Portsmouth, she worked as a medical assistant and then became an LPN, serving in Portsmouth General Hospital for many years. The daughter of the late Kenny Farris and Lelia Virginia ``Ginnie'' Odom, she was a member of First Friends Church and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Sunday school teacher for many years. In 1985 she moved to Manteo to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was a precious treasure with a wonderful sense of humor and a real zest for life and family. We will miss her so very much.
Cherishing her precious memory are her husband, John W. Thompson Sr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Thompson Reynolds and Bill Reynolds; her son and daughter-in-law, John ``Buddy'' and Faye Thompson; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Darlene Thomsen Jacobs and Larry Jacobs, Kitty Thomsen and Chaplain Darrell E. Thomsen, Kim Thompson Wiiki and Robbie Wiiki, and Susan and L.A. Mauro; other grandchildren include, Wendy Denise Thompson, Katie Virginia Thompson and John Everett Thompson; eight great-grandchildren, L. Philip Brown Jr., Murray and Jennifer Brown Sawyer, Melissa Thomsen, Christie Thomsen, Matthew Thomsen, Rebecka Mauro, Louis Mauro, and Allison Victoria Wiiki; a great-great-grandchild, John Wesley Mann Sawyer; five step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister, Gladys Wilkins of Florida.
The funeral will be held in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today at 2:30 p.m. Chaplain Darrell E. Thomsen will conduct the service. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. to noon and other times at 3 Barney Place, Portsmouth.
