VERNON A. THORNE

Vernon A. ``Cute Daddy'' Thorne, 56, of the 1300 block of Elm Ave., died June 19, 1996, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

Mr. Thorne was born in Portsmouth and was the widower of Emma Jane Thorne. He was a landscaper and supervisor for Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 34 years. He attended Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Washington and Esther Thorne, both of Portsmouth; two sons, Shawn Thorne and Maurice Thorne, both of Portsmouth; six sisters, Frances Deloatch and Phyllis Thomas, both of Portsmouth, Velma Bonney and Shirley Bunch, both of Chesapeake, Mary Wilson of Suffolk and Catherine Thorne of Smithfield, Va.; four brothers, Otis Batten of Smithfield, John Thorne and Ernest Thorne, both of Chesapeake, and Clifton Thorne Jr. of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; two aunts; three uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. by Elder Lagus McCoy in Jesus Church of Deliverance, 5246 Jones Lane, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
