The Museum of the Albemarle this week will dedicate a new exhibit celebrating ``The Lost Colony,'' America's longest-running outdoor drama.
The exhibit, ``The Lost Colony: Applauding 60 Years,'' will be unveiled at 7 p.m. Friday with a special public opening at the museum.
Exhibit designer Don Pendergraft said, ``The museum's role is to interpret the rich history of the Albemarle region, and `The Lost Colony' has been a part of the heritage for 60 years. With their cooperation, we finally have a quality exhibit to commemorate its role in the region.''
The exhibit was designed and built with the help of ``Lost Colony'' alumni and staff members. Photographs, vintage costumes, and props used in the production since its debut in 1937 will be a part of the display.
The exhibit will remain at the Museum of the Albemarle through the summer. Through the fall and winter, the museum will loan the exhibit to schools and civic organizations across the state. Next June, the exhibit will go to the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and remain through the summer as part of the drama's 60th anniversary season.
