A Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judge on Monday sent to Circuit Court a first-degree murder charge against a 15-year-old girl charged with killing her 4-week-old baby.
Judge Alotha Willis certified charges against the teenager, who was 14 at the time of the baby's death, following a hearing that was closed to the public and press.
The teenager was arrested last month after the baby died at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk May 17. The baby had skull fractures, a broken femur and bruises. Police believe the child was injured between May 15 and May 17.
The girl has the right to appeal the judge's ruling. Because a final determination has not been made in the case, her name is not being published.
