ARTHUR L. LEGGETT

Arthur Lloyd Leggett, 86, of 830 U.S. 17 South, died Monday June 24, 1996, in Bertie Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Bertie County and a retired farmer. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for over 65 years. He was also a member of the board of deacons and of the brotherhood. Mr. Leggett was ordained as a minister of the gospel on Feb. 4, 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Speller Leggett; five daughters, Frances L. Hoggard and Shirley L. Nash, both of Windsor, Christine L. Wynne of Williamston, N.C., Rachel L. Mobley of Miami, Fla., Helen L. Watson of Whittier, Calif.; a son, Gilbert Leggett of Windsor; a sister, Bessie L. Nicholson of Williamston; a brother, Leonard Leggett of Wilson, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Siloam Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Jenkins and the Rev. J.N. Baggett. Burial will follow in the Speller Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 74, Windsor, N.C. 27983.
