JOHN J. JOHNSON

John J. Johnson, 88, died June 19, 1996, in Saint Joseph's Hospital.

He was born in Raeville, La., and lived most of his childhood in Hope, Ark. He arrived in Norfolk at age 19 and lived there until moving to Augusta to be near his family. Until he left Norfolk for Augusta in 1989 he was very active in the Sewell's Point Golf Club, a member of Norfolk Host Lions Club, a life member of the Norfolk Elks Club (NU)38 and a member the Augusta Elks Club (NU)205. He was also a noted fisherman. For some years he was manager of Norfolk Southern Bank at its Wards Corner Branch; when he retired he was manager of Colonial Finance Corp., a subsidiary of Price's Inc.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Keith Johnson; his son, Keith Johnson, and his wife, Martha; his son, Charles ``Chuck''; and four grandsons, all of Augusta.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Norfolk, where he and Dorothy were married in 1938 and where his sons were baptized.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 21, 1996, in Augusta.
