ROBERT L. RODGERS SR.

Robert L. Rodgers Sr., 65, of the 1900 block of Rockwood Drive, passed away June 22, 1996, in the V.A. Hospital, Hampton.

He was a native of Bowers Hill and a graduate of Norfolk County High School. He attended Norfolk State College, now University. He was the son of the late Cornelius Rodgers and Ethel Godwin. He was a well-known cabinet maker for the Tidewater area. In August 1952, Robert married the love of his life, Casteen White and out of that love for 43 years they bore nine children and reared them in the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake. Robert leaves lots of wisdom, love, and fond memories to be treasured by his wife, Casteen W. Rodgers; five daughters, Saundra R. Somerville and Valencia R. Rodgers of Chesapeake, Gloria R. Horrell of Portsmouth, Cynthia R. Wright of Fredericksburg, Jacqueline R. Easley of Virginia Beach; four sons, Robert L. Rodgers Jr. of Chesapeake, Samuel L. Rodgers of Norfolk, Vincent Rodgers of Fort Stewart, Ga., Andre L. Rodgers of Fort Clayton, Panama; a sister, Gertrude Spain. He also leaves his love to 14 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1959 Rockwood Drive, Chesapeake and will gather there at noon for services. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today by the Rev. K. Brown in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Bells Mill, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.
