Pier fishing along the northern beaches was mixed Tuesday.
A few spot, sea mullet and small bluefish were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier.
Avalon Pier reported a few spot, small bluefish and little gray trout taken during the morning. Spot fishing was good in the afternoon on the incoming tide.
A 38-pound cobia was landed from Jennette's Pier late Monday. Scattered spot were taken Tuesday morning. Fishing was slow in the afternoon.
Fishing was slow Tuesday morning on Outer Banks Pier, but improved during the early afternoon when a good run of spot hit the pier.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported five king mackerel decked Monday afternoon. A few flounder and spot were caught Tuesday.
A few Spanish mackerel, bluefish and speckled trout were landed sporadically throughout the day on Avon Pier.
Seven king mackerel were landed from Frisco Pier late Monday afternoon. Plenty of small spot, some croaker, bluefish and pinfish were caught Tuesday afternoon.
Surf fishing along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was slow.
Around Oregon Inlet, some bottom fish and scattered bluefish were taken from the revetment and the catwalk on the south end of the Bonner Bridge.
Spot fishing was good during the morning along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some mullet, croaker and a few keeper flounder also were taken.
Bluefish were beached at Cape Point early in the morning. A few sea mullet and pompano were landed during the day.
Good catches of small bluefish and Spanish mackerel were reported by surf fishermen at Hatteras Inlet early Tuesday morning.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good for bluefish. A few Spanish mackerel also were taken. Headboats caught croaker, sea mullet and pigfish.
Dolphin fishing was fair and tuna fishing was slow off Oregon Inlet Tuesday. A few billfish were released, including four white marlin by the Hooker.
Charters off Hatteras landed good catches of dolphin and a few wahoo. Two white marlin were released by Buddy Hooper's Hatteras Fever, a blue marlin by the Tuna Duck, and white marlin by the Lucky Chip, the Wahoo and Walt Spruill's Hatteras Fever. A sailfish was released by the Hatteras Blue.
The water temperature was 65 degrees Tuesday at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 81 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
